If you have a home gym, lift heavy weights, and want to be considerate to neighbours, then investing in some decent rubber mats is highly recommended. You’ll also find that the mats can protect your equipment, and your body too (especially if you do any floor work). Lastly, it also brings the gym together and really looks the part.

I use Cannon’s Luna 40mm rubber mats on the ground, and then use BeFit flatline (from Cannons as well) 1m x 50cm 20mm rubber mats on top of a cabinet to quieten down and protect your kit like bars, clamps, etc. from scratches.

The benefits of getting rubber mats in your home gym

  • When moving from a bare garage floor, I no longer worried about bumps (had a few scary moments where my feet scraped against some rough ground and that made me stumble in a squat)
  • I found when I dropped weights, the sound was a dead thump, rather than a resounding clang
  • They were OK to cut, but needed a sharp blade (I used a retractable utility knife)
  • It made the room look like an almost professional home gym
  • They were easy to fit and needed no glue, but they do migrate over time a few mm

Overall, I’d highly recommend rubber mats for your home gym. And I’ve used Cannon’s a number of times to recommend them as well – good products, quick delivery, and fair pricing.
